CHAPTER ONE

For as long as she could remember, Kish was an outcast. She was always teased and hated by the Pixies. That was why she wanted to live with the Fairies so badly. Being half fairy and they would accept her.
But also being half Pixie, there was a chance they would not. Pixies have always hated Fairies, but the Fairies wanted to make peace with the Pixies.
Around fifteen years ago, peace was made between two individuals. A Pixie woman and a Fairy man eloped into the Fairy woods and lived there until Kish was born. But when her mother took her home, she was punished by death. But for some unknown reason, they didn’t kill her daughter. Her father was said to have disappeared days after the death of the love of his life.
^-^
One day in the dungeon, Kish had another idea of how to escape the place that was so cruel to them.
“ Right, Kish, like that would get us out of here. Remember what happened last time? That dart could have killed you! And besides, why try it anyway? You know they’re just going to kill us in a few months.” Mirie said sarcastically.
“ Because, Mirie, we’ve still got a few months to try. If we get out this time, I promise you that we’ll get to the forest in time.”
“It just doesn’t seem right.”
“C’mon, it’ll work.”
“LUNCH!!”
The girls looked up. Standing at the door was Manten, the chief guard, and the rudest person Kish had ever known. He set the two bowls of goop down, and the girls slowly crept toward the food and quickly snatched it away before he could change his mind and take it away.
As they were eating lunch, Kish was going over her plans of escape in her mind. She was going to use one of the oldest tricks ever; using her fire power to cut through the bars on the window, then flying above the clouds to the woods. When she would get there, she would be in the kingdom of the fairies where no pixie could get to her.
The last time she escaped, it took her three weeks to get to the forest. If Mirie would come, that would make it an even four weeks. She had everything planned out. She just had to get Mirie to come with her.
^-^
That night, Kish gently tried to nudge her friend awake.
“mmmm… what?” Mirie mumbled, still half asleep.
“Mirie, I’m going to leave in three days. Please, I’m begging you to come with me.”
“Ugh. If I go with you, will you promise not to pester me ever again?”
Kish was relieved. Her best friend was going with her to the only place that they would ever be safe.
She quickly charted out her plans for escape. She thought she had everything planned out, but then Mirie asked a question that would make this plan need more thinking.
“It’s a great plan, but in case you haven’t noticed, I can’t fly. How will I get there?”
Kish thought for a moment. Then she had an idea.
“I’ll carry you.” She said with a serious look on her face.
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
“Okay, then it’s all set. We leave in three days,” Mirie said with a yawn.“We’ll need a lot of rest. Go to sleep now.”
“Fine, but tomorrow I have more ideas for our plan.” Kish said as she was pulling the blanket over herself.
“GOODNIGHT.” Mirie said, a little annoyed. She pulled the blanket over her head, and within minutes, Kish could hear the muffled snoring of her friend.
Before Kish fell asleep, though, she thought. She thought about how she had been locked in that dungeon for most of her life, and how she would be free soon.
Free. What a complicated word. For others, freedom didn't mean much. But for a person who had never even been to a store in their life, freedom meant so much more. It meant a warm place to stay, food that was actually worth eating, and being able to breathe clean, fresh air. Soon, she found herself drifting off to sleep.
^-^
The next morning, The two girls awoke to something quite alarming. The guards were shoving a girl into the cell. She was wearing a purple velvet cloak, and was muttering curses as they locked the door. She turned around to Kish and Mirie and flinched.
"Terribly sorry you had to hear that," She said while doing a curtsey with her cloak."My name's Gylfie. And you are?"
^-^

As the two girls stared at their new cellmate, all Kish could think was that she would have to reveal her plan to her and make a lot of changes in the next three days.
"And your names are?" The girl named Gylfie said in an almost annoying tone.
"Well, my name is Mirie and this is my half fairy friend, Kish." Mirie piped out.
Suddenly surprise overtook Gylfie's eyes. "Did you just say 'half fairy'?" She said, looking at Kish.
"Yeah, whats it to you?" Kish said, annoyed by the girl already.
"Oh, jeez," Gylfie said, looking at Kish as if kish was superior to her in every way. She intied the tie on her cloak and it flutterd to the floor thus unveiling two light green wings. "I'm a full fairy."

PROLOGUE

As Kish was sprinting toward the woods, she quickly glanced behind her shoulder. The townfolk were gaining, and it didn't look as if they would spare her mercy.

She knew what she had to do. She removed her cloak and thrust it to the ground, thus unveiling her wings and pixie ears. Quickly as she could, she flew up into the air and threw fireballs at the vicious crowd. She hated to do it, but she had to.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her side. She looked. A dart was sticking out of her waist. Her body felt weak. Her vision blurred. She felt herself falling. She lost consiousnes when she hit the ground.

When she came to, she found herself back in the dungeon with her usual cellmate, Mirie.

"Welcome back, friend!" She blurted out.

Without hesitation, Kish pulled the paper thin blanket over her head and turned over. She then fell asleep, wondering if she would ever be able to leave the horrible place that was the Pixies' city.

DARKNESS

You left me and shut off the light.
Now I am in darkness.
My face is stung by the cold feelings you left behind.
The loving things you have said to me you have taken with you.
Will you ever come back?

EXTINCT

We are alone.
Our people are being killed.
Little by little, our species are perishing.
What are we?
We are the African wild dogs.
And soon, we will be extinct.
Civilization is tearing away at our home,
Forcing our prey to leave and go to different places.
We are the African wild dogs.
And soon, we will be extinct.

HOME

A girl walks down a dark hallway.
Looking for her place, not finding the way.
Where does she belong?
She sighs, wondering.
When will she get there?
She is overcome with fear.
Will she ever get there?
She collapses, crying.
Tears streaming down her cheeks,
A door opens.
She recognizes the voice.
"This is where you belong." The loving voice says.
She gets up and walks in.
A bright light, and feelings of warmth surround her.
She knows where she is.
She is home.
